😫 My motorhome broke again!

Well, September was a handful! 😆

I saw Bon Jovi at Wembley, did the Epic Places in Europe workshop, spoke at the Shepton Mallet show, planned and lead two lovely groups of motorhomers in France, floated over Chambord in a hot air balloon and ate a worrying number of crêpes.

But for a while there, I wasn’t sure I’d even make it to France at all!

My motorhome drama...

My motorhome passed its MOT at the beginning of September just fine. It took me down to Devon and to the Shepton Mallet show the weekend before the France trip started, so I thought I was more or less ready to go.

Turns out, not so much...

On the day I was supposed to meet the group for the first of TWO back-to-back France trips, I packed up the van, got in and turned on the ignition... to discover that the indicators didn't work.

Even more confusing, they worked fine as hazard lights... just not as indicators!

I cannot tell you how stressful that was. This wasn’t just my own holiday that I could postpone for a day. People were travelling to meet me, we had a Channel crossing booked, and I was supposed to lead the group.

How the heck do you lead a motorhome trip without a motorhome?!?!

There was a frantic trip to my garage, who couldn't fix it in time, then a call to Adam's parents, who very kindly offered to lend me their motorhome for the duration of the trip. Cue a crazy quick changeover and we were underway again.

Somehow, I arrived and the trip got underway. But I won’t pretend I sailed into it feeling calm and organised. 😅

Thankfully, France and the Loire Valley gave us a pretty wonderful reward for getting there, with lovely weather so we could enjoy sightseeing, relaxing and BBQs most evenings. I have to say, I enjoyed being on the site. I think I needed the respite after the dramatic start!

A few days between trips

After the Loire trip, Adam and I visited Saint Nazaire and the submarine pens, the standing stones at Carnac and the stunning town of Rochefort-en-terre (which I HIGHLY recommend!) as well as Pont l'Abbe and Locronan - another village you should definitley add to your Brittany itineraries.

And now we’re in Brittany…

As I write this, our second France group trip has just begun. This one is all about enjoying Brittany’s coastline and beautiful villages (and possible another crepe or two!

I’ll tell you how we get on in the October recap. For now, I’m hoping for beautiful views, plenty of good food and no further motorhome drama whatsoever, please. 😂

In short, September has been wonderful, stressful, exhausting and unforgettable — sometimes all in the same day!

What’s happening in October?

Once the Brittany trip finishes, I’ll be back in the UK and getting ready to speak at the NEC Caravan and Motorhome Show.

I’m on stage every day talking about making the most of your time in Europe and some places you should definitely visit - including ideas if you’re new to taking your motorhome abroad and some bigger adventures if you’ve already got a few trips under your belt.

I’ll also be running my Buyer Beware workshop in October, for anyone thinking about buying a motorhome and wondering what to check before handing over their money.

After that, I've got two more surgeries scheduled (because apparently one isn't enough!) so I plan to recover without opening my laptop too much. (How much do we want to bet that doesn't happen?!?!

Oh, and WMC members, I've got a surprise for you! Look out for your members email on Saturday 😉

I hope you had a wonderful September and have fun things planned in October.

Take care and safe travels,

The biggest issue with travelling solo is there is NO ONE to blame but yourself when you do something stupid. It's very inconvenient! Sadly, no matter how experienced a motorhomer you might be, you still occassionally do something downright silly. Generally when an entire campsite of people are staring at you in disbelief. 🫣 A while ago, I arrived at a campsite and (for reasons which aren't clear to anyone, including me) I decided to drive my motorhome onto a grass field... just after a heavy...

If you're new to visiting motorhome/caravan shows, the October NEC show can feel incredibly overwhelming. It's HUGE! If you've only ever been to the February one, the October show is even larger. If you are visiting the NEC show this week, here are some quick tips: Get there as early as you can. It starts to get really busy around 11.30am until about 4pm. Wear comfortable shoes & do not underestimate how far you're going to walk. Some women do the show in heels... I am not one of them! Bring...

Well, it's been a bit of a month on the motorhome front! If you've been following my adventures recently, you'll know that my motorhome decided to throw a rather spectacular spanner in the works a few weeks ago. And, of course, it chose just about the WORST possible moment to do it. 🙄 I was on my way to meet a group of Wandering Motorhome Club members, to start our trip into Europe. I'd used it a few days before and it passed it's MOT the week earlier. And then, on the day the trip started,...
