⏳ I had 20 minutes to grab EVERYTHING...

Recently, my motorhome broke in spectacular fashion, on the way to join a group trip I was leading.

I had about 20 minutes to move the essentials from my motorhome into my in-laws’ motorhome (which, weirdly, is also a Swift Escape with an end lounge, but the Compact 402 version.)

Twenty minutes is not long to basically move house.

There wasn't time to think through every choice. I just had to grab the essentials and head out.

In fact, it was an incredibly powerful exercise. A bit like the 'imagine the house is on fire and you've just woken up. Apart from people and pets, what do you grab?'

It showed me clearly what items are the most important to me on my trips.

So here’s what made the cut. (Plus a few things I’m adopting from my in-laws’ setup!)

What I grabbed in 20 minutes

Obviously, I grabbed clothes, some food, Mac's food, but here are the accessories I focused on:

  • EcoFlows (yes, BOTH of them): These were the first things I grabbed. This is the one I use most. I charge it while I drive, and it runs my laptop, cameras and electric blanket when I’m parked up without hook-up. This is the mini one which is very light and easy to take outside or use for smaller devices at night.
  • Internet: This is my internet router and I love it. As long as there's a 4G signal around, this router will get it and be able to give me internet in the motorhome.
  • Low-wattage air fryer: I debated for AGES before buying this one. Would I use it? Would it trip the campsite? It doesn’t, and I use it far more than I ever expected.
  • Cadac BBQ: I love this BBQ. It's on legs, yet very stable, easy to clean and it's easy to get gas cartridges for.
  • Rechargeable fan: This is the fan I use. It extends, folds up small and is rechargeable, so it works outside too.
  • Blink Indoor Camera: I use this little camera whenever I leave Mac alone in the motorhome for a long time, so I can check he's ok.
  • Motorhome mat: I love this motorhome mat. It stops mud and dirt being tracked into the van, all year round.
  • Walking shoes in mud bags: These boot bags stop muddy shoes and boots from making the lockers filthy.
  • Mac’s drying bag: If you travel with a dog who likes water, mud, sand or rolling on the grass, get one of these! 🐾
  • Waterproof dog blanket: Talking of which, protect your bed from soggy doggies. This one is quick-drying and thick enough to stop any dampness reaching your duvet.

And here are some things I didn't bring, and have regretted it:

I’ve put everything into one list, with what’s on deal today, so you can find it all easily:

The biggest issue with travelling solo is there is NO ONE to blame but yourself when you do something stupid. It's very inconvenient! Sadly, no matter how experienced a motorhomer you might be, you still occassionally do something downright silly. Generally when an entire campsite of people are staring at you in disbelief. 🫣 A while ago, I arrived at a campsite and (for reasons which aren't clear to anyone, including me) I decided to drive my motorhome onto a grass field... just after a heavy...

If you're new to visiting motorhome/caravan shows, the October NEC show can feel incredibly overwhelming. It's HUGE! If you've only ever been to the February one, the October show is even larger. If you are visiting the NEC show this week, here are some quick tips: Get there as early as you can. It starts to get really busy around 11.30am until about 4pm. Wear comfortable shoes & do not underestimate how far you're going to walk. Some women do the show in heels... I am not one of them! Bring...

Well, it's been a bit of a month on the motorhome front! If you've been following my adventures recently, you'll know that my motorhome decided to throw a rather spectacular spanner in the works a few weeks ago. And, of course, it chose just about the WORST possible moment to do it. 🙄 I was on my way to meet a group of Wandering Motorhome Club members, to start our trip into Europe. I'd used it a few days before and it passed it's MOT the week earlier. And then, on the day the trip started,...
