Please don't shoot the messenger, but it's nearly September. Sorry. On a personal note, I'm quite excited about this. Once I get back from Greenland, I'm taking two more groups of Wandering Motorhome Club members across to Europe and we're going to explore the Loire Valley and Brittany in France; it's going to be a lot of fun! However, if you're staying in the UK, here are some fun events happening next month for you to enjoy... Fun facts about September
DAYS to REMEMBER:There's a right-old mishmash of days in September, some very serious and some very silly. Here are a few which caught my eye: 01 September: Back to Hogwarts Day (Harry Potter). Fans gather at Kings Cross Station 02 September: 80 years since the document of surrender was signed by Japan (not officially VJ day- that's on 15th August) 06 September: Read a Book Day π 08 September: Star Trek Day π 09 September: International Suduko Day (the 9th of September was chosen because Sudoku is traditionally played on a 9 x 9 board.) 13 September: Roald Dahl Day and Stand Up to Cancer Day 16 September: National Guacamole Day (Fun fact: Guacamole was first made by the Aztecs in Mexico, who called it "ahuacamolli" which means avocado sauce.) It's also International Country Music Day (can I get a yee hah?) 19 September: Talk like a Pirate Day (Rrrrrr you going to do it, matey?) 21 September: World Alzheimer's Day 22 September: Hobbit Day - celebrate the birthdays of both Bilbo and Frodo (it's unclear whether or not only those with very hairy feet can participate...) 22 September: Autumn Equinox (Despite popular belief, the equinox is not always on the 21st. It changes date every year by 1 or 2 days) π 11-13 September: Rosh HaShanah (the Jewish New Year festival) 26 September: European Day of Languages DAYS OUT/ WEEKEND SHOWS4 September: Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On β Blackpool, Lancashire See More 5th September: The Braemar Gathering, Highland Games, Scotland See Moreβ 11-13th September: BBC Radio 2 In the Park see moreβ 11-13th September: Icons of the Sky (Longleat Balloon & Air Festival -VE80 Special) See Moreβ 12th September: Last Night of the Promsβ 12 September: The Great River Race β London (Ham to Greenwich) 12-13 September: European Heritage Days, N.I. Be honest- do you know what to do if you have an accident while driving in Europe? Whether youβre in your motorhome, campervan or car, thereβs one document you should carry: the European Accident Statement (or Accident Form). This form is incredibly clever, because it helps resolve the language issues in Europe. If someone from France runs into someone from Germany in Spain, the form format is exactly the same. Each person then completes the form in their own language, and it all fits...
Well, August has been a bit of a month! It started with a quick weekend to Spain to visit family and relax by the poolβ¦ and ended up with a solar eclipse and standing on the second largest ice sheet in the world! π A little August recap I headed out to Iceland hoping to see the total solar eclipse β and, as you may know, the Icelandic weather did its absolute best to ruin those plans! I didnβt get the perfect view of the sun disappearing that Iβd hoped for, but watching the entire world...
If you're taking your motorhome or campervan to Europe, there are three things which seem to cause a ridiculous amount of confusion: Tolls. Vignettes. And low-emission stickers. People mix them up all the time, and to be fair, Europe really doesn't make this easy because different countries have different systems β and sometimes they even use the same WORD for completely different things. So in this week's video, I'm going to explain the difference between them, which countries you're likely...
